Chapter 28 ~ Alex

We just looked at each other for a second. Then, Starla turned into Eros automatically and charged after him. Vladimir stood up and flicked his finger. An invisible force pushed her back.

"Vladimir!!" she hissed. She got up, but fell down immediately.

"Alex!" she yelled in pain. Her foot was twisted in a way that feet aren't meant to be twisted in. Jen put a shield around us and I ran up to Starla holding my hand against her foot. Vladimir broke the shield and twisted her other foot, which made Starla scream and clutch my hair. Her talons dug into my head and I winced in pain.

I healed her other foot and she got up, wobbling. I held her steady and summoned my Tonfa Blasters and blasted Vladimir so many times I couldn't count. I found him there holding Jen as a shield. I dropped my guns.

"Jen!" I yelled. I don't like telling people this, but Jen is my half-sister. I sort of...just shot her. It's a normal reaction when you shoot you family, no? I ran up to her, but Vladimir pushed me back. He looked at Jen with a cruel smile and was about to wrench her neck, but Jen turned into a lion and bit his hand. He yelled in pain.

Jen fell down as a human being. Or angel in technical words.

"What the hell are you doing?! What has she done?!" I yelled.

"Why should I answer that question? Now, its time for the little princess," Vladimir said, looking at Lucy.

No way in fucking hell will that happen. I rushed over to Lucy, and stepped in front of her.

Just in time too. Lucy wasn't hurt what so ever, but I felt something piercing through my chest.

A katana.

I pulled it out of my body and winced with pain.

"What the hell is wrong with you!?" Lucy screamed.

"I'm fine, idiot," I said as I fell down.

"No, you're not! You-" Lucy said as tears formed in her eyes.

"Idiot. Haven't you forgotten my healing powers? This will be over in a flash," I said. I raised my arm to my cut and started the flow of magic. I felt a little better, but I didn't have enough power to even sit up properly.

Before I knew it, Starla had Vladimir by the neck. He struggled and tried to wrench his way out, but Starla held him tighter. As soon as I knew it, he...

"He's gone," Starla said.

"The hell happened?" I said.

"Fools!" I heard him say. We looked around, but I couldn't find him anywhere.

"VLADIMIR!!!" Starla yelled with her banshee scream. We covered our ears.

"Stop it, Starla," Jen rasped. We looked at her.

"Jen!" we said altogether.

"We should have never attacked him," she said.

"Why? He was Vladimir," I said.

"But that wasn't him. That was a clone," Jen said, "This wasn't the same power I felt in Mrs. Rachmaninoff's house."

"But that means..." Lucy said.

"Yeah. The Vladimir you fought wasn't him. And the real one is stronger than this one," Jen said.

That was all I heard before I collapsed.

Chapter 27 ~ Jennifer

"So, what are these ninja costumes for, again?" I asked.

"We need to blend in the dark. Plus, ninjas are awesome," Alex said, passing us shurikens.

"He has a point there. Not the ninja part, but the blending in the dark," Lucy said, "Hey, where's Starla?"

"I'm invisible, idiots. Think harder next time," Starla's voice said. Everyone sweatdropped in their ninja costumes. Soon, only Alex was wearing a ninja costume.

Along with a a bloody mouth and black eye.

I decided that if Starla was invisible, I might as well change as well. I felt myself getting smaller and smaller until all of them were giant size.

"Here, Lucy. You can have my invisible cap. I had it for my 123rd birthday," Starla said. She gladly took it, but accidently dropped it. The cap landed over me and I was stuck inside.

"Help!" I squawked. Lucy quickly picked up the cap and looked at me. I had huge eyes, big talons, and beautiful gray and white feathers.

"You're...you're..." Lucy said.

"A barn owl. This is my transfiguartion powers. Didn't I explain to you about it?" I retorted as I flew up to her. Lucy looked like she was about to faint, Alex put on the invisible cap and she disappeared. Soon, there was a pool of blood on the ground. Alex picked her up.

"Man, this is not stealthy," he grumbled.

"We're not trying to be stealthy, we're trying to fucking attack Vladimir!" Starla said.

"Jesus, we'll be seen if you two won't be quiet!" I hooted.

"Huh?" someone's voice said. We all jumped, at least I knew me and Alex did.

"Oh, it's Lucy," Alex said.

"Yeah, its me. Why'm I bleeding?" she asked seeing blood fall what looked like...nowhere.

"Oh, forgot. Hold still," Alex said, holding his hand against her head. I heard something of a slight sigh, but I couldn't tell who it came from. Could be Alex, exasperated. Could be Lucy, satisfying or feeling better or something like that. Or Starla, who was probably...

I shouldn't say anything or she might hit me.

"There," Alex said, taking his hand off. I had no clue what it looked like, but I could see it wasn't bleeding anymore.

"Thanks," she said.

"Can we get going now?" Starla said. I couldn't see her facial expression. Hell, I couldn't see anyone's! But, whatever, I led the way through the palace. It was night time, probably around 9:30 European Time, since we bombed accidently bombed the White House...which reminds me.

"Starla, can you do a time reverse?" I hooted.

"Sure, for what?" she asked.

"The White House, smart one," I cooed.

"Oh, yeah," she said, sweatdropping. Once again, I couldn't see her, but I could hear her whispering the enchantment. I summoned a screen of the White House and everything was coming back to normal slowly and slowly. People were going backwards into the building and I saw the tracker/nuclear bomb slowly rise up.

I used my ice power to freeze the tracker and I saw it fall down, without an explosion. Just the way it should be. And now that the thing cooled down, it probably won't spontaneously combust again. Thank God for that.

"Let's see...we need to go this way!" I said, flying to the left. I was going to make another left after that, but I saw two guards walking up and down the aisle speaking fast in a British accent.

"Leave that to me," Alex said. He pulled out a contractable bow and arrow and aimed carefully. He skillfully shot two arrows in each of their necks and they fell down. Alex walked over and yanked out the arrows. Then, he wiped the blood on his ninja suit. We trampled/flew/walked our way there.

We flew down more hallways before Starla said, "Stop!" We all froze. Starla summoned some white powder (hopefull not an illegal substance) and blew it straight forward. Soon, lazers and wires were showing.

"Just as I smelled. The smell of electricity," Starla muttered.

"The switch is on the other side," Lucy said, pointing.

"Easy," I said, as I flew around, avoiding the security systems. I pushed a button with my beak and the lazers came off and the trip wires going back into the wall.

Without my owl abilities, Starla's dragon scence, and Alex's stealthiness, we would have never made it there to the final door.

"This is it. He's behind this door," I said. Starla tried to punch the wall, but it hardly made a dent. Alex got out his bazooka, but there wasn't even a scratch. Instead, some writing appeared and a tablet.

"I've been around for thousands of years, but I'm not even a month old. Who am I?" Alex read.

"Oh, shit. A riddle, I'm horrible at those," Starla said.

"Let's see...what's been around...month...?" Lucy rambled on.

"I'm officially stumped," I said.

"But...it must be something in...?" Lucy muttered.

"Lucy?" Alex asked. Lucy had walked up to the tablet. We all crowded over her and saw her write the word "moon". The door started to shake, but it didn't open. Another riddle appeared on the door.

"Lucy!" Starla said.

"Lovely and round, I shine with pale light, grown in the darkness, a lady's delight. What am I?" I hooted. Lucy stood there for a moment with her eyes closed. After a minute, they opened again and her fingers wrote the word "pearl". The door shook again and...well, you already know.

"If you take off my skin, I won't cry, but you. What am I?" Starla read. Lucy autimatically wrote "onion". The door shook again and rose up.

"Lucy, you did it!" I cheered. Lucy turned pink.

"It was nothing. My mom and dad always gave me riddles when I was young. I guess I still got some skill left," Lucy said sheepishly.

"That was great, though," Alex said.

"Thanks," Lucy said. Starla didn't say anything, though but hissed at a man straight across from us.

"Vladimir..." she muttered. The mad smiled cruelly.

"Welcome, children. Ready to play a game?" he asked.

Chapter 26 ~ Starla

After that rude interruption of Zach, I continued to explain the rest of the situation.

"Well, this is new," Jen said.

"What?" Alex asked.

"That, I don't know what this is," Jen said. Starla and I sweatdropped.

"It sort of explains it. You know, usually there's one guardian angel for everyone, but three...there must be some kind of precaution to go with her," Alex said.

"You have a point. There must be something in Lucy that we don't know about," I said, "Something that Headmaster and the rest of the council doesn't want us-anyone-to know."

"Jen! It's finished!" Lucy yelled.

"I got to go. We'll finish this up later," Jen said.

"I'll go with you. I can't stay in the room with Starla alone for more than five minutes," Alex said, following Jen.

"Bastard," I muttered as I followed them. No use staying here.

"This looks right," Jen said, examining the tracker. Lucy slapped her.

"The instructions were in fucking German! Hell, I had to get help from Mr. Cloud Guy!" Lucy said.

"Don't call me that," Zach said. That must be Zach in his human form.

"I'm sorry they were in German alright? It's a habit," Jen said.

"That's a strange habit," Zach said. Everyone nodded, but Jen who turned scarlet.

"Shut up," she said.

"Why can't we just relax until another wave of murders strike?" Lucy pointed out.

"Point," I said. And that's what we did.

For at least five seconds.

The alarm thingy went off and we all took some of Zach and made earmuffs out of them, including little microphones so we can talk. Which I found really gross.

"What the hell?!" Alex said.

"It's the tracker!" Jen said, "Lucy, what does it say?"

"Buckingham Palace!" Lucy exclaimed.

"Oh, fuck, now Kate and Willam are gonna get killed?!" I said.

"They will until Zach steps on it," Alex said.

"Not helping!" I yelled. The earphones went all staticky. I was about to take them off, but then I remembered the tracker has a banshee scream.

"Don't yell in the microphone," Lucy muttered.

"Zach, step on it!" Alex said.

"Um...if you haven't noticed yet, the tracker looks like its about to explode!" Lucy said. She had a point. If you lisstened over the banshee scream, you could hear a faint ticking noise.

That was growing faster and faster.

"Drop it!" Jen said. Alex quickly pushed through the puff and shoved it out of Zach.

"No, wait!" Lucy screamed. More static. Then, the tracker exploded. Little bits of it came flying everywhere in the sky, but most of it landed on...

"The White House!" I screamed. The static was longer, but you could hear people screaming and running for their lives. Man, this reminds me of the the time when the White House was burning down. Lucy ducked as a piece of debris sailed over her head.

Forget that, though. We just bombed the fucking White House.

"Serves you right, Obama!" Zach said. We became all silent.

"What? I was rooting for McCain," he replied. More silence.

"Just get to fucking England!" Alex said, "Oh, no offense if anyone is Brittish."

I sighed and fell into the leather seat. When will we ever get a break?

"Hey, look at the news," Jen said, turing the volume on the flat screen louder.

"...reported dead and their daughter Lucy Cross gone missing. Officials are still unsure about her whereabouts, ut there was no trail of evidence, but of this letter V hanging over the Mr. and Mrs. Cross's heads," the reporter said. Then, the TV showed "BREAKING NEWS" on it.

"Every politian is fearing for everyone's safety in the White House. Yes, the White House was bombed-" the man said, before Alex punched a hole in it.

"Hey! That hurt!" Zach said.

"What was that for?" I asked.

"I don't know. I couldn't control myself, I guess," Alex shrugged.

"So, the way to calm yourself down was punching a hole into a TV," Lucy said. Alex shrugged again. The idiot.

"Hey, we're here," Zach said. We all crowded around the window, Jen's face smashed into it. We saw Buckingham Palace.

And as I looked up, I saw a single dark feather falling from the sky.

Chapter 25 ~ Lucy

"Jen!!" I said as I went up to hug her.

"Nice to see you're okay," Starla said with a smile, crossing her arms. Alex looked over and his eyes seemed to say 'Welcome Back'.

"I...I got some bad news though," Jen said and filled us in. All our smiles faded.

"Vladmir...kills people for power?" I asked.

"Yep. And its growing. Fast," Jen said.

"Now, what? We have no way of tracking thanks to Master Alex here," Starla said, which made Alex glare at her.

"I got a blood sample of him from Professor. We can use that. And let me do the work," Jen said, glaring at Alex too. Alex looked at me for help.

"Leave Alex alone. He helped Starla and I avenge my parents," I backed up.

"Starla, didn't you say you needed to tell me something? Jen, hurry up and fix it. C'mon, Starla," Alex said as he twisted her arm and pulled her into a different room.

"Lucy, can you do me a favor and fix this? I think those two alone could cause an early apocalypse. The instructions should be on my phone," Jen said as she walked over to the room Alex and Starla where in.

I looked on her phone and saw the instructions.

In German.

She probably took German when she was in school before. Times when I actually hate her more than Alex and Starla are now.

"Jen! I can't read German!" I said, but she closed the door and didn't here me.

"Hey," someone said. I saw a boy about my age.

"Who the fuck are you?!" I yelled, "And how did you get on?!"

"It's Zach. No need to yell," he said.

"But, I thought you where the cloud...that was driving...and why are you human..." I said, confused. I reached over and tried to touch him.

Zach smiled and said, "Don't worry. It's on autopilot. And I AM a cloud. I can take human form too. You see, part of me is this car and part of me is what you're seeing. I got bored so I decided to freak you out and stuff."

"It's getting harder for me to be 'freaked out' since everything in my world is messed up like hell," I said frustratingly.

"You need anything?" Zach asked.

"Didn't you hear me screaming, 'I can't read German!'?" I said.

"No. I was too busy listening to Train. Let me guess. Jen left you alone with something important that's only read in German. Figures. Jen and I were in German class together," Zach said, scratching his head.

"That's great! You can help me right?" I asked.

"Well, my German's sort of rusty. Jen uses it all the time and I haven't spoken it for a few hundred years. Plus, I really didn't pay attention much," Zach said, turning red.

"Fuck. Now what are we going to do?" I asked.

"'We'?" he said.

"Well, you're now a part of this," I said.

"Who said so?" he asked drinking a glass of champagne.

"Me," I said with a glare. Zach dropped the glass and shuddered. Huh. Looks that my glare can kill.

"Fine. As long as you don't kill me," he said, grabbing Jen's phone. And that's how we got almost finished.

"All we need now is the blood sample," Zach said.

"But, Jen has it," I said.

"Exactly. That's why you need to get in there and take it," Zach said.

"Why can't you?" I asked.

"Because, I helped you enough," Zach said.

"It'll be too noisy. The door creaks," I said.

"Then, I'll turn you into a cloud," Zach said. I widened my eyes.

"Relax. Only for a while. That way, you can become part of me and take the antidote by using my body," Zach explained.

"Fine. But, you better know how to change me back," I said. Zach smirked and said, "I always do." He touched my forehead. I felt one hundred pounds lighter, but still solid. I looked around and found Zach.

"Just melt into me," he said.

"That's fucking gross," I shuddered, but I melted into him and into the wall. I found the wall where the three angels where in. The blood tube was in her pocket, hanging out. I tried to reach for it, but almost fell off Zach (it still sounds gross).

I turned my hand into a claw and reached for it again. This time, Jen moved around so she was nearly sitting on it. Damn it. I can't get it without touching her ass and that will be...what's the word I'm looking for?

AWKWARD.

"Oh, I'm sitting on the blood sample," Jen said. She put it on the table. Yes!

"Thank God its not smashed," Alex said.

"As I was saying, Lucy turned into the freak monster," Starla said. I froze. I'm not an eavesdropper, really. But can you not listen when one of you friends talks about you?

"Everything died in her path and she killed Abel in one blow," Starla said. When did I do that? I got to focus. The tube. I need to get the tube-

"Then, she turned back to normal with no memory," Starla finished. No memory. Why didn't she tell me?

"Why didn't you tell me!?" I yelled. The whole room became silent.

Oops.

"Lucy? Is that you?" Alex asked. Please. Please. Please believe it was the wind.

"Maybe it was the wind?" Starla said.

"Or maybe it's this weird arm sticking out trying to take the tube," Jen said, taking the tube away from me. I almost whined, but then remembered to stay silent.

"Lucy?" Alex asked, reaching out to touch the arm.

"Gotcha!" I heard someone say.

"Zach?" Starla asked.

"Duh! It's obviously a trick. You morons fell for it!" Zach said happily.

"Don't do it again or I'll rip the fluff off you neck," Jen said, "Lucy can't know about this."

"Ditto," Zach said, "BTW: I need the vial to finish the tracker. I'm helping Lucy finish it and she asked me to get it for her. And you just had to get the German instructions did you?"

"Sorry," Jen said, turning red. She handed the antidote to Zach and we got out of there. Then, I felt a sharp pain on my ass.

"What was that for?" I screamed.

"For blowing your damn cover. Now let's get this done with," Zach said with another slap.

"You can stop slapping my ass now," I muttered.

Chapter 24 ~ Alex

"Shit...where are they?" I wondered to myself. The GPS sort of hates me and even though I've been following it for almost an hour, I still haven't found them. And just when I think I was getting close, it just has to die on me.

C'mon. Laugh. Laugh at how all electronics hate me. Then, my phone rang.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Alex? Where the fuck are you?" Starla said.

"In the redwoods, but the GPS hates me so it doesn't work And worst of all it died, so now I'm stuck in this fucking tree praying the signal doesn't die! Does that explain the shitty question?!" I yelled.

"Of course it does!" Starla said sarcastically, "Just tell us which tree you're on and of course we WON'T FUCKING FIND YOU!" Then, a bunch of static until I heard Lucy.

"Alex?" she asked.

"Yeah," I said.

"Sorry. Starla's just mad. It's all my fault. I hurt my damn ankle and Starla was helping me up. After that, Starla and I flying to the landline until I saw a tree branch. I was yelling 'Duck! Duck!' and then Starla had to fly upward and say 'Where?' and then her wing got fucking busted and we're now trapped here," Lucy explained.

"Fine. This will be impossible to do, but I'll try and find you, okay?" I offered.

"Okay, just hurry up before she becomes Eros and tries to eat me," Lucy said as she hung up. I looked at my phone and remembered that there's a GPS on there! If all goes well, I can transport Angel Data on my phone and track them down.

Then again, usually all my experiments backfire. What was supposed to be Vladimir became that Abel dude. Who knows what might go wrong. Maybe my phone will turn into a nuclear reactor and destroy the whole Redwood National Park.

I'm just saying.

I undid the wires inside the GPS and sort of shoved them in the charging plug on my phone. I waited and...

My phone screen blacked out.

"Fuck!" I cursed, but then heard an entrance fanfare coming from the GPS.

The GPS must have taken the battery from my phone and used it to charge itself. So...it cancels out, right?

When the GPS turned on, it said a bunch of instructions, which I didn't listen to in the beginning. But one part caught me.

"When navigating yourself to find the angel, you must NOT follow the arrow but go the opposite direction, as if you were flying an airplane," the soothing voice saying all the instructions said.

So this is why listening to directions is important. Kids, listen up, always listen and follow directions or you may get yourself stuck in a national park lost with an I-don't-know-how-it-works GPS.

After five minutes I found them sitting at the landline, playing Angry Birds on an iPod touch.

"Yo," I said.

"Alex!" Lucy said as she ran up to hug me, Starla pushed her out of the way and punched me in the face.

"Really! It took you that long to find us?!" Starla asked.

"Yep. Now let me see that wing of yours," I said. Starla sighed, but pointed to the wing that was bent.

"Ouch," I muttered as I examined the damage. Her wing was bent pretty badly.

"So, now what Doctor," Starla asked.

"We'll need to get this wing amputated," I said.

"WHAT!?!" Starla yelled.

"Of course not, idiot. Now sit down. I'll fix that wing. Let me check Lucy," I said.

"And after Lucy, you may need to check your face!" Starla said, growling. Lucy held her back and sat down closer to me. I looked at it.

"You twisted this badly. Luckily, I can fix this instantly," I said. I placed my palms around her ankle and concentrated my energy on her ankle. Lucy winced, but that's natural. This is probably the first time magic has coursed through her body. Then, I let go.

"There, now try moving it," I said. Lucy cautiously turned her ankle.

"It doesn't hurt! Thank you so much!" Lucy said, as she gave me a hug. I pushed her back. I'm not much of a hugger.

"Starla, this is going to hurt, okay? It'll hurt to fly for a while," I said. I summoned a wing brace and some gloves. First, I numbed the wing and then bent the wing back in place. I used my magical energy to seal the bones inside and then put the brace on.

"Done. And I was nice enough to numb the pain for you, even though you don't deserve it Nightwalker," I said. Starla passed away that remark which is I guess her way of saying thank you.

"Now, let's go. I'll get Zach for us," I said.

Chapter 23 ~ Jennifer

"Whoa," I said. Dead Rachmaninoff mommy. Scary.

"Now what? We have no way of knowing goals or weaknesses, unless you want to travel to the Dark Side," Alex said.

"Dark Side should be our last plan. There has to be some other ways we can find more information on Vladimir Rachmaninoff," I said.

"I know someone," said one of the exterminators. Alex and I turned to look at him.

"My friend Louie has been researching Vladimir Rachmaninoff all his life. He should know some stuff," the exterminator said. We looked at each other, thanked the man, and then hopped onto a cloud.

"You know Louie Thomas? Take us there ASAP," Alex said.

"Sure, but it will take a while," the cloud said.

"We'll pay double the grease," Alex said. The cloud nodded and started to drive. My cellphone rang.

"Hold on, I have to take this," I said as I typed in the code to enter my iPhone.

"Jen!" Starla said.

"Starla? Where are you?" I asked.

"In California! Near the redwoods! We had a mix-up with one of Vladimir's lackeys. Lucy beat him up and we-"

"Lucy beat him up?" I asked questionably.

"Don't interrupt!" Starla said, "Anyway, we're...I don't know. My cell died so we had to use this stupid landline. Just use the GPS!" Then, the thing was cut off.

"Lucy beat up, who?" Alex asked.

"One of Vladimir's workers. Listen, you have to find them," I said as I passed him the GPS.

"Why me? I always do man work," Alex whined.

"That's because you're a man. They're somewhere in California, near the redwood trees," I said.

"Trees look the same," Alex pointed out.

"This one has red...wood?"

"Shut up. Fine, I'll find them. But you owe me something...like...a penguin!"

"A penguin?" I asked.

"A penguin!" Alex said as he flew off the cloud.

Fucking idiot.

x.X.x

"Mr. Thomas?" I asked knocking on the door. A tall man opened the door with a beard. He was holding a mug of coffee.

"It's Dr. Thomas for you," he said.

"Sorry, sir, to interrupt. But, may I please come in? I have important business with you," I asked. Dr. Thomas nodded and I walked in. I sat down at the coffee table.

"What do you need?" Dr. Thomas asked.

"I need some information on Vladimir Rachmaninoff," I whispered silently.

"I see. This is about the attacks. Come in my study," he whispered. He got a cup of coffee and then beckoned me to follow him into a wall.

"Um...sir?" I asked with a whisper, but Dr. Thomas signaled me to be quiet. Then, he pressed the wall really fast at random to me. Then, the wall tore apart into a secret study.

"Here is all the work I've done on Vladimir," Dr. Thomas whispered proudly.

"Why are we whispering?" I whispered.

"Because we are. Anyway, the folders are alphabetized so you'll be able to find info in a flash. It has the same technology as the archives," Dr. Thomas whispered. I nodded and thanked him. I then rushed to the W's. I took out the Weaknesses folder and plugged the card into my phone.

What it read was "Weaknesses: Unknown".

"Dr. Thomas?" I asked, not in a whisper. Dr. Thomas walked next to me.

"Unknown weaknesses?" I asked, gulping inside my head.

"Oh, yes. At his rate, no one had any chance of recording it. He'd strangle them before it happened. His mom might have been the only one to know, but she was a special case. I'm researching that right now, but it will take a while until I get solid proof," Dr. Thomas said.

"Shit," I muttered. This is a hell of a mess.

I wandered over to the G's and then pulled open the "Goals" folder. I plugged the card into my phone. At least this one wasn't unknown.

"Goals," I read out loud, "Vladimir's main goal is to achieve immortality and become the highest dark angel in time. So far, this hasn't happened, but because of a recent incident in the Cross household, Vladimir might have achieved his immortality." He hasn't yet. I mean he hasn't reached his full power!

But I pray to God that he'll never make his dream, or nightmare, come true.
